I Don't whisper to dogs, I listen to them.
Dogs Will Be Dogs
You've wanted that special puppy for a long time now and finally that day comes when you bring that sweet little bundle of joy into your home. The puppy is perfect. But as he gets older and develops a personality all his own you find out that your sweet little puppy came with some unexpected surprises. Because you love him very much and want him to compete or for him to just fit in with the family, you decide training him is the best thing for him and you. Great! But now who do you listen to? No treats, use treats, shock collars are mean, shock collars work great, pull and tug, never tug, use a clicker, clickers never work, be pure positive, use corrections. It is no wonder dog owners get confused and frustrated and eventually give up. This same thing happened to me until that little light went on in my head that no dog is the same as the next. That is why I have an open mind to everything and work with the dog to figure out what is the best way to teach him so that he understands. Rather than just training the dog, I go one step farther and really get to know the dog, what makes him tick, his likes and dislikes, his love of rules, ritual, treats, and reinforcement. Most importantly I let dogs be dogs and try to communicate with them in their language.
